Client Brief, the project

Following the successful completion of previous works for the Instituto Cervantes in London, Shakery Group was invited to take part of a new tender opportunity for the Institute offices in Manchester. We submitted a competitive proposal and were successfully awarded the project, reinforcing our trusted relationship with the client.

Appointed to deliver the upgrade following the initial concept design produced by the Cervantes specialist consultant, our team led the project from the initial technical validations process through to final handover, maintaining quality, safety, and compliance at every stage.

During the validation process, a number of deficiencies were identified by our technical team, which included extensive repairs to the Air Handling Unit pipework and other remedial works that were addressed as part of the overall project.

The 6-week programme involved a complete removal of the existing plant room equipment. We installed a new, high-efficiency boiler system, upgraded pipework, and integrated a full set of circulating pumps alongside a new expansion vessel. To enhance performance and monitoring, a modern BMS control panel was installed, giving the client greater control and improved energy efficiency.

Project Delivery

Shakery Group worked closely with the Instituto Cervantes team and incumbent building contractors throughout, providing clear communication, dedicated project management, and technical leadership. By managing the full process, from strip-out to commissioning, we ensured a smooth transition to the new system with minimal disruption to building operations.

The project was delivered on programme and within the awarded contract value. We handed over fully tested, certified, and ready for use. The upgraded boiler and plant room systems now provide Instituto Cervantes Manchester with a reliable, energy-efficient solution designed to meet its long-term needs.
