As part of their production department expansion plans, Contamac appointed the Shakery Group to create a brand new lab space to upscale productivity, creating a new space to integrate a new set of fume enclosures as well as dedicated lab space with washing facilities. The goal was to maximise the available space whilst ensuring all the infrastructure was seamlessly integrated.
Client Brief, the project
Shakery Group took on this project on a full design-and-build basis. During the initial design stages, our team worked closely with Contamac’s production and technical teams to identify all requirements and coordinate specialist consultants to ensure all elements were included in the scheme.
This project was one of the key phases of their overall facilities upgrade, which meant that some departments had to be relocated to free the space required to house this new lab.
Our team undertook a complete strip out of the current space, demolishing a blockwork wall in order to form over 800 sqft of new lab space.
The key element in this project was to prepare the space to house a new bespoke fume enclosure along one of the walls, ensuring the extraction system was fully compliant with their production teams requirements; To do so, our team had to create a false wall within the lab in order to recess all services at the back of the enclosure, due to the lack of ceiling void within the space. This new void was fully accessible via service hatches from the outside of the lab, ensuring maintenance was achievable at all times without having to impact the production capacity.

In addition to the extraction installation, our team improved the make-up air within the space, compressed air installation, and other M&E services required.
Once all the infrastructure was complete and a new anti-slip and chemical-resistant tiled floor was in place, our team completed the installation with all wipeable surfaces and durable stainless steel tops over all the bespoke cabinetry required.
Throughout the project, we worked closely with Contamac to ensure the lab expansion met their needs and complied with all regulations. The result is a modern, state-of-the-art production facility that supports Contamac’s continued growth.
